TSJ CONTEST FOR A SONY BLOGGIE HD CAMERA
Sony Electronics gave us a Bloggie HD Camera to give away to one of our coolest fans. So what we decided to do was hold a contest. A cover contest. So what we’re asking of you is to record yourself covering one of our songs and upload it to YouTube. Then in a few weeks we’ll pick our favorite and that lucky person will win the Sony prize. (2nd and 3rd runners up get a nice lil’ TSJ gift package).
So here’s all you have to do…
- Film yourself playing a cover of any one of our songs, on any instrument you like (guitar, xylophone, ocarina, ukulele, cello, whatever you want)
- Film it on your camera, your laptop, your phone, however you can.
- Upload the video to YouTube.
- email your name, address and link to your YouTube cover to THESTATICJACKSCONTEST@GMAIL.COM
Deadline for submissions is April 1st. We’ll announce the winner on April 4th.
That’s it for now! Any questions? Tweet @thestaticjacks We’ll answer them.
Let the games begin…

Hey you guys..you guys…
Check out our Daytrotter Session we did last year while on the road with The Wombats. We tried to shake things up a bit and give you guys something special. So in it we perform a nice little ode to New Jersey (cough…Springsteen…cough…Misfits) as well as a take on Mercy, Hallelujah and what it would sound like if the Smashing Pumpkins covered it : ) Get the session HERE.
Also, we’re about to go back out on the road, down to SXSW for a few showcases as well as out even further west to meet up with our besties Howler. Check the posters below. More SXSW dates to be announced soon!

love you guys

We have returned, at last, to the beautiful shores or our own United States of America, weary, but eager to grind it out again on our own soil. And that is exactly what we will do, starting with a nice drive to Austin TX for SXSW. But first, a retrospective:
The past three weeks at once feel like a blur and an eternity. It is a difficult feeling to describe. To have covered so much ground in so little time (particularly the first week, which generally involved herculean overnight drives by our Captain, Christopher Nathaniel Cuthbert, BA Hons (pictured above) as we tore through the European continent) seems to distort the memories and play with time like putty. Partying til the break of dawn does not help either (we can thank certain Wombats for that). Speaking of the Wombats, they provided us with some of the most mind-blowingly awesome shows while we were in England, and for that they deserve our thanks. Great friends.
Theres not much more I can say without going into anecdote overload, and since your time is a precious commodity I will simply close with a conveyance of gratitude to everyone who came to see us, everyone we played shows with, and everyone who let us invade their homes (ie the amazing family I have in Denis, Jim and Heather (those of you at the Brixton show will remember Denis I’m sure)).
Now it’s time to mess with Texas. After we get our sleep schedules straight.

Our soundcheck for the first of our Wombats shows last night at Portsmouth Guildhall with Hooray for Earth. Note Henry and Andrew in the big screens behind Michael (we didn’t get them for the real show but it was still cool), as well as Wombat Dan lurking in the background. The show was insane. Amazing food, awesome fans, and I walked out of the casino with 40 pounds, after walking in with 5. That’s on the heels of leaving a Brighton casino with 25 pounds after entering with 10. I’M UP, BABY. Back to the point, it was great seeing the Wombats & crew again. Very interesting to watch them perform their roles on such a larger scale than in America. Needless to say, they performed flawlessly. The same cannot be said for our drumset, which decided it would be a good idea to fall apart in the middle of our set. Luckily, our drummer and the crew are professionals, and we muscled though (despite the snare head being split in two, among other things). Today, we buy a new snare and head to Warwick University to meet up with the Wombats & Hooray for Earth again. Huzzah.

Some pre-show guitar prep in our lovely Kingsbury home base, provided by the man who has become family to us all, instead of just to me, the noble Denis Mulvihill. Right now, as is frequently the case, you’ll find us lounging in various rooms around the house, all radios tuned to BBC Radio 2 to provide us with surround sound in every part of the house. Looking forward to some more neighborhood exploration today before we head off to our show with Grouplove tonight. Should be a smashing time.

Greetings from Europe! Where venues treat you like a king with wonderful candlelit dinners. Playing tonight in Rees, Germany, once we finish digesting the schnitzel and potatoes. Last of the shows on mainland Europe. Tomorrow we drive to Calais, to take the ferry back across the English Channel. Chyeah boy.
