Once again, it seems we continue to breathe only by the good graces of the various mechanics that work on our van. “You’re lucky to be alive” is not to be confused with the previous mechanic comment, “I just saved your life” (circa our ‘Celebrity Death Tour 2010’ with the Futureheads), but I am starting to see an uncomfortable trend here.
Van problems aside, our tour with Young the Giant has been excellent. First show was at Great Scott (SOLD OUTTTT) in the Allston region of Boston, MA. As usual, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly in the great city of Boston, and despite some deliberate jacket-theft (bass player/detective Andrew Santora found the thief in a McDonalds across the street), it was a wonderful evening. Many thanks to our excellent friend Ali Donohue for hosting us in her home.
Boston was followed by a show at The Met in Pawtucket, RI, where we got to hang with our old buddy (and erstwhile Static Jack), Spencer Kimmins! Good times. Great food. The next day we travelled to Mercury Lounge NYC (S.O.L.D. O.U.T.), which of course meant a trip to the Remedy Diner on Houston and Norfolk. A Static Jack tradition. The food is heavy and there always seems to be too many fries… two factors that make it the opposite of an ideal pre-show meal… but we can’t help ourselves.
So today, we rest. Tomorrow we will play in Clifton, NJ with The Gay Blades, then back with Young the Giant for a few more dates. Pray for our safety in our frankenstein van, if you’re into that kinda thing.
